DESCRIPTION
Rio Hondo Community College (RHCC) is a public community college in Whittier, California. Founded in 1960, it serves the cities of Whittier, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, and El Monte. Rio Hondo boasts a Kinesiology program that specializes in training Fitness Specialists with a near 100% hire rate.
GOALS
Rio Hondo’s campus representatives came to KYA Services and requested an updated weight room facility to serve as a strength training lab for their Kinesiology Strength Training students, Cross Training students and Intercollegiate athletes. After years of frequent use, it became apparent that upgrades were necessary to continue meeting needs. In addition, the floor needed resurfacing to optimize weight room activities and provide adequate safety.
PROCESS
OVERVIEW
KYA Services took on the task of creating a solution to modernize Rio Hondo’s weight room. KYA installed ten custom platforms with school branding, 5 double half-racks, new benches, bumpers and bars.
CONSTRUCTION
PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS
Ecore Athletic Rally Flooring, an updated rubber flooring system, was installed to absorb the impact of weights, preventing damage. Rubber flooring also provides a more stable surface, effectively enhancing the quality and safety of the stations.
PROJECT RESULTS
Rio Hondo Community College was very excited for their new Strength Training Lab and were pleased with the smooth turnkey results. In addition, many students expressed their eagerness to utilize the new equipment and use them to work toward their goals.
