GENERAL INFORMATION
Building Name: Citrus College Baseball Field
Building Location: Glendora, California, United States
Project Type: Synthetic Baseball Field
DESCRIPTION
Citrus College, located in Glendora, California, is the oldest community college in Los Angeles County. With an enrollment of 20,000 students per academic year, Citrus College has a sprawling 104-acre campus including 44 buildings and seven outdoor athletic facilities.
GOALS
Citrus College was seeking a way to enhance the performance of its baseball field and also ensure low maintenance requirements. While collaborating with KYA, the option was raised to create a state-of-the-art synthetic turf system to maximize the field’s lifespan.
PROCESS
OVERVIEW
Understanding the need for speed, KYA Services utilized procurement vehicles to promptly secure materials, ensuring a timely installation of the field during the off-season. Within a span of three months, the field was prepared and game-ready.
CONSTRUCTION
PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS
KYA Services, in collaborating with TenCate, embarked on developing a system to ensure that the field upgrades would not alter gameplay. The result was a comprehensive field system tailored to optimize baseball playability.
The system utilized a MaxFlo Shock Pad as the foundation for optimal ball bounce and speed layered with TigerTurf Endurance Turf, a unique synthetic turf manufactured from TenCate’s superior FFXP Pro yarn.
GeoCool™ infill, an inorganic calcium carbonite mineral, was added to mitigate heat with its superior slow evaporative cooling properties.
PROJECT RESULTS
Citrus College was exceptionally pleased with KYA’s innovation and dedication to creating a customized solution for their needs.
