DESCRIPTION
College of the Desert (COD) is a public community college in Palm Desert, California. COD enrolls about 12,500 students. It serves the Coachella Valley of Riverside County and is federally recognized as a Hispanic-serving institution.
GOALS
College of the Desert needed to resurface their tennis courts to repair the roughened surface caused by desert conditions such as extreme heat, UV rays, wind and sand damage. They were looking for a quick turnover, utilizing their Winter Break, to ensure that students would not be disturbed during construction.
PROCESS
OVERVIEW
KYA Services, understanding the urgency, initiated discussion with COD to review options, establish timelines and ensure clear expectations. Utilizing KYA’s vast network of partners, the resurfacing process started on time. KYA continued to have weekly meetings with COD to give updates and facilitated periodic check-ins to ensure completion.
CONSTRUCTION
PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS
KYA worked with a local partner to recoat the entire surface of the college’s eight tennis courts. The process of resurfacing included extensive detailed work including applying two coats of primer and blacking out the whole area before adding base color, court colors and precision tennis court lines.
PROJECT RESULTS
The resurfacing process was completed prior to the deadline. College of the Desert expressed satisfaction with the efficiency and quality of the tennis court results. They were especially pleased with how KYA’s their objectives while consistently communicating from start to finish.
