LANDSCAPE MODERNIZATION - SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE
San Jose City College completed a landscape modernization in their General Education Quad area including landscape turf, replica plants, tree surrounds and natural rock. For ease of procurement San Jose utilized the FCCC purchasing contract allowing them to obtain design, project management and complete installation with KYA while utilizing local labor.
Method of Approach: KYA provided the design of the quad using our in-house design team and replaced rubber tree rings with bender board for a cleaner break. Boulders were strategically placed to create a natural look and add additional seating for students. Colorful pots were included to enhance feature focal points at current benched resting areas. KYA worked with the college to ensure that the project met all the DIR and Public Works requirements while still adhering to the schedule.
Results: Now San Jose City College has a beautiful area for students to enjoy between classes. As a result, they can reallocate current labor to other areas of the campus that require attention. Most importantly, they save an exponential amount of water per year and mostly eliminate maintenance noise by switching the quad to artificial turf and replica plants.
