GENERAL INFORMATION

Building Location: Concord, California, United States

Project Type: Synthetic Turf Football Field

DESCRIPTION

Mt. Diablo High School, part of Mt. Diablo Unified School District located in Concord, CA, is committed to creating transformative educational environments that foster both academic and athletic success. With a strong dedication to athletics as a pathway to higher education, the school supports student-athletes in earning scholarships to pursue their dreams.

GOALS

The district aimed to modernize their oldest athletic field, prioritizing a speedy renovation to ensure the field would be ready in time for the upcoming athletics season. This project was critical for enhancing the student-athlete experience and showcasing the school’s commitment to quality facilities.

PROCESS

OVERVIEW

To expedite the project and avoid delays often associated with traditional bidding, the district leveraged KYA’s CMAS purchasing contract. This streamlined the procurement process, allowing the project to be fast-tracked and completed ahead of the new school year. This strategic approach ensured that the field met all required standards within a compressed timeline.

CONSTRUCTION

PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS

The renovation began with a comprehensive demolition of the existing field, removing outdated and unsafe materials. KYA then implemented advanced synthetic turf designed to mimic the look and feel of natural grass while offering durability and low maintenance. A modern cooling infill was used to reduce surface temperatures, ensuring a more comfortable playing experience and enhancing player safety. Beneath the turf, shock-absorbing safety padding was installed to minimize the risk of injuries and meet strict safety standards. Additionally, improved drainage and regrading systems were integrated to manage water efficiently and extend the field’s lifespan. These upgrades combined to create a high-performance, sustainable athletic field tailored to the school’s needs.

PROJECT RESULTS

The school was thrilled with the outcome. Their executive director stated “I cannot begin to express how excited I am to provide this level of field to the student-athletes at Mt. Diablo High School. The field is just beautiful! They deserve it! I am hoping we can work together to plan the proper field walk with staff (and maybe athletes), share information about the field technology, etc. and work to gain some positive publicity for this campus.”
