DESCRIPTION
Fullerton College (FC) is a public community college in Fullerton, California. Sherbeck Field is named after legendary football Coach Hal Sherbeck, who led the Fullerton Hornets from 1961 to 1991, winning three national titles. The field is used for physical education and competitive athletics and the annual commencement ceremony.
GOALS
Fullerton College was ready to upgrade their Sherbeck football field to a full athletic center complete with grandstands, a press box and brand new turf. Fullerton College wanted to equip their student-athletes with a high-performing safe field that gave them a competitive advantage over their competition. In addition, they needed funding options to fit their budget and timeline.
PROCESS
OVERVIEW
Through KYA, Fullerton College utilized a CollegeBuys cooperative contract. CollegeBuys is powered by the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC) and offers discounts on a wide range of products including sports facilities.
KYA teamed up with one of our many partners to provide an elite turf surface for Fullerton College Athletics. KYA installed a fantastic multi-colored custom field featuring their school mascot.
KYA then coordinated the construction of the grandstands and press box, providing improved seating for spectators with shelter and a vantage point for the announcer and local press members.
CONSTRUCTION
PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS
A roadblock was hit when we discovered that the Pantone blue color Fullerton wanted to use for the field was patented by another college. Not giving up, KYA's tenacious team pushed to get authorization so Fullerton College could have the exact color needed to bring its field to life and succeeded.
PROJECT RESULTS
Fullerton College and KYA are committed to partnerships fostering excellence and innovation. The new custom synthetic turf, bleachers and press box have been praised for their comfort, ease of use and installation. KYA looks forward to cheering on the Hornets for years to come!
