DESCRIPTION
San Pasqual Valley High School (SPVHS) is a public high school within the San Pasqual Valley Unified School District (SPVUSD) in Winterhaven, California near the California and Arizona border. SPVHS has a 97% minority enrollment, majority being American Indian/Alaskan Native, with an enrollment of 190 students.
GOALS
The District wanted to purchase a brand new building to host a gym, multiple locker rooms, a wrestling room, bathrooms, offices and a foyer showcasing the school's many athletic accomplishments over the years. In addition, they wanted a space that could also be utilized by the community.
PROCESS
OVERVIEW
Despite a difficult time caused by global market escalation and volatility, KYA was able to procure and fabricate the superstructure of the CUUBETM 100-Series gymnasium building. KYA’s densely populated network of manufacturer partners proved invaluable during this unprecedented time period. KYA worked hand-in-hand with the District’s Architect of Record to design,
fabricate and complete the gym while adding three traditionally built structures attached to the perimeter of the DSA pre-check approved gym.
CONSTRUCTION
PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS
For the CUUBE™ gymnasium and adjacent rooms, KYA sourced all interior furnishings including retractable bleachers and stage, state-of-the-art audio and visual systems, MFMA Northern Hard Maple flooring, operable solar tubes, floor sleeves for volleyball posts, motor-operated basketball hoops and HVAC duct sleeves. The solar tubes provide eco-friendly and sustainable lighting.
PROJECT RESULTS
SPVUSD and the surrounding community were extremely pleased with the results of their customized CUUBETM, the interior and exterior finishes and the speed in which the full structure was erected. The school now uses their gym daily for practices and physical education classes. They also lend their facilities to the community for cultural celebrations, performances and large meetings.
