KYA breaks ground on the first Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELO-P) funded Art Room CUUBE™ Building in Hollister School District
Hollister, CA - July 1, 2024 - KYA Services, an award-winning specialized contractor, proudly announces the groundbreaking for Hollister School District's CUUBE™ Art Room building made possible through full funding from California's Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELO-P). This groundbreaking marks a significant advancement in educational facilities.
The ceremony, held on July 1, 2024, began with remarks from Dr. Colleen Myers, Director of Educational Services at Hollister School District. She expressed her excitement about bringing the Art Room buildings to three different campuses, starting at Sunnyslope Elementary School, followed by Calaveras and Ladd Lane campuses. Aaron Buzzetta, Director of Facilities, Maintenance and Operations, and Transportation, provided an overview of the project, and Erika Sanchez, Superintendent of Hollister School District, delivered closing remarks. Notable attendees included CBO Elizabeth Wilson, Principal Joe Rivas, and Board President Cathay Toste.
ELO-P is a California Department of Education program that provides funding for enrichment programs for students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade. These programs can take place before and after school, as well as during the summer and intersession days. Customized to meet the unique needs of the extended learning program users, the CUUBE™ design features custom cabinetry, exterior handwash stations and integrated roll-up doors - merging indoor and outdoor learning spaces. Beyond being a cutting-edge educational facility, it will also be home to the school's arts programs.
The installation of the CUUBE™ represents a significant advancement in educational architecture. Utilizing SidePlate® Moment Frame technology, CUUBE™ is a sustainable steel structure that surpasses seismic and wind shear code requirements without on-site welds. Large roll-up doors and clerestory windows create a seamless integration between indoor and outdoor learning environments, providing students access to fresh air, sunlight and nature. Its durability, adaptability and century-long lifespan give the students, faculty and staff a place for learning and fun for years to come!
“When we think about all of the students that will be served by this building…We’re here to make wise, long-lasting decisions that will impact our students, and I can assure you this is one of those decisions,” stated Erika Sanchez, Superintendent of Hollister School District. “And I appreciate you coming here today because, to me, it shows that you believe in the children of the Hollister School District… I have loved the creativity and I love that it’s not something that will just go away with the wind or just a today thing. It will be a long-time thing - it’s a CUUBE, for goodness sake! It’s my understanding they last!”
The CUUBE™ building at Sunnyslope Elementary School is the start of a new standard for construction in small school districts. It aligns with the district's mission to expand opportunities to all students in their community.
