NEW PARK BUILD - EL DORADO HILLS COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT

GENERAL INFORMATION

Project Name: Blackstone Village Park

Building Location: El Dorado Hills, California, United States

Project Type: New Park Build

DESCRIPTION

Blackstone Village Park, located within the El Dorado Hills Community Services District at 1881 Blackstone Parkway, is nestled in a predominantly wetland area. It forms part of the Blackstone Community and is the 28th park developed by the District, as well as the 4th park located south of Highway 50. The park’s design prioritizes passive, low-impact recreation while preserving the natural oak groves and wetland environment.

GOALS

As the second park in the Blackstone Community, the goal for Blackstone Village Park is to seamlessly integrate local habitats into the design. Key features include interpretive signage that educates visitors on native plants and animals, wildlife footprints embedded within the children’s playground, and fitness stations along a half-mile trail. This trail connects to the larger Blackstone HOA trail system and further extends to Valley View Sports Park, improving access to recreational areas throughout the community.

PROCESS

OVERVIEW

Funded through Park Impact Fees, the 13.6-acre park was designed to provide both active and passive recreation while preserving the site’s natural elements. KYA collaborated with local stakeholders to incorporate the community’s needs, resulting in a plan that includes two playgrounds with inclusive elements, a fitness trail, preserved wetlands, and ample open space. The design also features restrooms, shaded play areas, and a lighted parking lot to enhance usability.

CONSTRUCTION

PRODUCTS AND SYSTEMS

Blackstone Village Park features two inclusive playgrounds designed for children aged 2-5 and 5-12, both equipped with shade structures and poured-in-place (PIP) surfacing for safety. Along the half-mile paved walking trail, eight interpretive signs provide educational insights into the local wildlife and wetlands, while four fitness nodes offer outdoor exercise opportunities. The park preserves large open grass areas for picnics and informal gatherings, as well as significant wetland spaces to maintain the natural environment. Additional amenities include restrooms, benches, picnic tables, group BBQ areas, and dog stations, all contributing to a comfortable and convenient outdoor experience. Decorative art is also incorporated into the playground area, adding a creative touch. The park is supported by a lighted parking lot with nine spaces, including one ADA-compliant spot, ensuring accessibility for all visitors.

PROJECT RESULTS

Blackstone Village Park complements the Valley View Specific Plan, enhancing connectivity between residential villages and recreational spaces. By integrating the local ecosystem into its design, the park offers residents an opportunity to engage with nature while providing diverse recreational activities. This park serves as a vital community hub, offering both active fitness opportunities and peaceful areas for passive enjoyment.
